As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will take a pivotal hands-on leadership role within the Cloud and Infrastructure team, focusing on Microsoft Azure environments to create scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions that support the country’s future superannuation needs.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage lifecycle activities for Azure servers and cloud services including provisioning, monitoring, and decommissioning.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services within the organization.
  • Contribute to the organization’s cloud strategy, security protocols, and future technology roadmaps.
  • Maintain governance practices such as access control, resource tagging, budgeting, and adherence to regulations.
  • Continuously seek improvements in cloud service performance, reliability, automation, resource optimization, and cost management.
  • Utilize infrastructure-as-code methodologies and promote self-healing, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Lead incident responses for critical outages and security breaches related to cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage relationships with cloud service providers and vendors ensuring their services meet the business and SLA requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to cloud engineering colleagues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners on projects and deployments.
  • Stay updated on current cloud technology trends and promote collective knowledge growth within the team.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive IT experience with a strong emphasis on cloud technology, especially Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven skills in designing and deploying secure, reliable cloud architectures.
  • Deep understanding and practical application of infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Advanced expertise in cloud security strategies.
  • Experience building self-healing, fault-tolerant systems and understanding of stateless, loosely coupled distributed applications.
  • Knowledgeable in both relational and NoSQL databases as well as messaging and queuing API services.
  • Strong analytical abilities paired with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capable of articulating technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Customer-centric mindset with a record of meeting or surpassing service-level agreements.
  • Collaborative attitude with demonstrated ability to foster strong internal and external relationships.
  • Previous experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to engineering teams.

What We Offer

  • An energizing work environment unified by a shared purpose to deliver sustainable investment returns for all New Zealanders.
  • Competitive salary package including base pay, discretionary bonuses, and up to 8% employer contributions to KiwiSaver.
  • Opportunities for global-class professional development, career advancement, and job rotation.
  • Extensive leave and benefits including enhanced parental leave and insurance coverage.
  • A flexible and inclusive workplace promoting equity and accessible working conditions.
