Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Category Buyer to join BAM UK's procurement team, based in Galway, Cork, or Kildare. The primary responsibility is to oversee strategic sourcing and procurement for construction-related materials, equipment, services, and selected subcontractor categories. This pivotal role involves crafting category strategies, negotiating commercial agreements, managing supplier and subcontractor relations, and promoting value through cost efficiency, supply chain advancement, and compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement sourcing strategies for construction materials, equipment, and services to optimize costs and maintain quality.
- Manage strategic subcontractor categories by refining supply bases, establishing preferred subcontractors, and negotiating framework agreements for value and risk reduction.
- Build and maintain strong, sustainable supplier partnerships, regularly evaluate supplier performance, and lead supplier development initiatives.
- Lead contract negotiations, review and manage contracts ensuring adherence to legal and company standards, and oversee contract renewals and performance.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks ensuring compliance with industry regulations, health and safety standards.
- Monitor category spend, control costs, report savings, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Collaborate with project teams to align procurement strategies with project requirements and foster cross-functional teamwork.
- Leverage procurement data for insights, reporting on savings, supplier performance, and market trends to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
- Professional certifications such as CIPS or RICS are advantageous.
- At least 5 to 7 years of procurement experience focusing on construction-related categories with expertise in complex supplier negotiations and strategic sourcing.
- Strong background in contract and supplier relationship management.
- Proficient in procurement systems, ERP software, and Microsoft Excel with solid analytical capability in spend analysis and procurement reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, commercial negotiation, and industry regulations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, problem-solving skills, leadership aptitude, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
