Job description
About the Role
Catapult Software delivers impactful software solutions used by over 40 countries, helping customers save time, money, and even lives. The products you will help develop keep vital services operational in sectors including electricity, water, oil & gas, and manufacturing. Your role will involve working mainly in C++ on SCADA and control system interfaces—mature, actively maintained codebases—in a small team environment where your contributions are directly shipped to users worldwide.
Founded in 1991, Catapult Software is a proud New Zealand export success, partnering with Velotic, a global leader in industrial software previously part of GE. This partnership extends and enhances SCADA systems integrated within core products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop SCADA and control system user interface applications for international export markets.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and frontend developers to enhance shared platform capabilities.
- Produce code adhering to established standards while incorporating testing and refactoring practices.
- Apply Agile and Continuous Integration methodologies, ensuring that products are secure and scalable.
- Implement features such as web services and perform data queries on existing datasets.
- Focus on improving core data structures, algorithms, and optimizing application performance.
- Participate in peer code reviews and work closely with fellow developers in a small, cohesive team.
Candidate Requirements
- Must be a New Zealand Citizen or hold Permanent Residency.
- Possess a minimum of 8 years' experience developing in C++ on legacy codebases with ongoing releases.
- Strong proficiency in modern C++ standards (C++20) and Boost Asio library.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant tertiary education qualification.
- Informed about current technology trends with a proactive approach to experimentation and innovation.
- Experience with multithreading, concurrency, debugging, and profiling techniques.
- Skill in creating reusable, testable, and responsive components using Angular or React frameworks.
- Familiarity with publishing and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Experience porting legacy C++ and associated toolkits from 32-bit to 64-bit architectures is highly desirable.
- Ability to analyze and understand problems deeply before proposing solutions, provide delivery estimates, and take ownership of implementations.
- Adaptability to evolving requirements with a customer-focused approach.
- Hands-on experience with technologies such as Visual C++, MFC, and COM is beneficial.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
- Familiar with tools and environments like Visual Studio, Git, SVN, NuGet, npm, yarn, Jira, Jenkins, and programming in C#.
Benefits and Work Environment
- Opportunity to work on software products that support critical services affecting millions globally.
- Join a well-established, successful, and forward-thinking company.
- Engage with a small, diverse, and close-knit team culture, complete with occasional treats like cake.
- Enjoy flexible working arrangements and a relaxed smart-casual dress code.
- Work in a conveniently located office in Takapuna, near the beach, with parking available.
