Role Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Gong, you will confront challenging technical problems, develop forward-thinking backend solutions, and contribute significantly to transforming how companies interpret customer engagement. The role demands expertise in Java and backend systems, working primarily onsite with a flexible hybrid schedule (3 days a week in the office).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of sophisticated, scalable backend services and APIs.
• Manage the complete feature lifecycle from conceptualization through coordination with Backend, Frontend, and Product teams to delivery.
• Drive team best practices concerning code quality, testing methodologies, and continuous integration/deployment processes.
• Tackle complex technical issues across the software stack to ensure system durability and robustness.
• Coordinate with multiple teams to minimize risk and streamline feature rollouts.
• Address scalability constraints through preventive and high-performance solutions.
• Build reliable, high-performing infrastructure that bolsters overall product stability and speed.
• Enhance engineering standards and team capabilities through robust CI/CD and quality assurance processes.
• Influence strategic execution of large-scale initiatives balancing technical excellence with business goals.

Required Qualifications

• More than 7 years of extensive backend development experience focused on Java programming.
• A track record of mentoring and guiding other engineers.
• Strong analytical skills with an aptitude for diagnosing and resolving complex technical challenges.
• Experience working with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud to develop scalable microservices architectures.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and data-oriented API and application development is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities, facilitating effective teamwork and clear technical dialogue.
• Preferably holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Must be authorized to work in Ireland and able to participate in a hybrid working environment.
