About the Role

Join Amazon's Translation Services team in Hyderabad as a Senior Applied Scientist, where you'll develop advanced algorithmic solutions for translating billions of words annually across more than 130 languages. You'll play a vital role in minimizing human intervention in language translations, ensuring precise and efficient delivery of translated content to a global customer base. Key Responsibilities

• Lead innovation using advanced NLP and Large Language Model (LLM) techniques to address intricate language translation challenges, enhancing product offerings in international marketplaces and pioneering image and video translation solutions.
• Design and deploy scalable machine learning systems that improve translation quality evaluation and optimize translation pipelines across various teams and infrastructures.
• Collaborate across departments to define strategic goals, implement success metrics, and deliver impactful solutions aligned with Amazon’s broader business objectives.
• Conduct in-depth data analyses to extract insightful patterns from multilingual data that inform product development and language technology strategies.
• Develop and implement novel machine translation quality assessment models and pipeline optimization methods, driving forward the scientific advancements of the team.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on LLM applications in e-commerce translation, effectively communicating complex scientific concepts to a wide range of stakeholders including senior leadership and fostering organization-wide adoption of innovative translation technologies.
• Mentor colleagues to strengthen scientific expertise and cultivate a culture of innovation and critical thinking within machine translation and evaluation disciplines.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years experience developing machine learning models applied to business contexts.
• PhD or Master's degree accompanied by over 5 years of applied research experience.
• Proficient programming skills in Java, C++, Python, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with neural network-based deep learning methods and machine learning techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, and scipy.
• Knowledge of large-scale distributed systems like Hadoop and Spark.
