Role Overview

The Monolith team at CoreWeave merges advanced cloud infrastructure expertise with applied data science to create transformative AI solutions for complex physical engineering challenges, including automotive systems, aviation, and advanced battery development.

As a Senior Applied Researcher, you will be responsible for fully managing sophisticated machine learning projects within the Physical AI domain. This role requires a technically strong generalist who can handle all phases from conceptual problem definition and experimentation to deployment and continuous operational support.

You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and client-facing teams to transform state-of-the-art machine learning techniques into dependable production-grade solutions for real customer environments. This position demands a balance of deep research proficiency and practical delivery skills, as well as the ability to effectively align stakeholders, identify risks or limitations, and communicate technical decisions clearly.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end machine learning projects in the Physical AI sector, encompassing problem framing, experimentation, deployment, and sustained support.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, and client-oriented teams to integrate advanced ML methods into trustworthy production systems.
• Provide clear explanations of technical decisions and limitations to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• At least 5 years of proven experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI, with a track record of delivering impactful production ML systems.
• Strong proficiency in software engineering using Python, and comprehensive knowledge of scientific computing and ML libraries such as NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining ML models in production environments, particularly on cloud platforms.
• Solid foundation in statistical modeling, machine learning experimentation, and evaluation methodologies.
• Expertise in working with time-series data, high-dimensional datasets, and imperfect real-world data.
• A high degree of technical curiosity with a commitment to staying updated with evolving ML and AI research.
• Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and communicate complex technical topics clearly.

Preferred Attributes

• Academic or professional background in engineering, physics, chemistry, or similar STEM fields related to complex physical systems.
• Experience with anomaly detection, optimization, reliability-focused modeling, or comparable methods within industrial applications.
• Familiarity with autonomous systems or agent-based models.
• Knowledge of MLOps, model monitoring techniques, and compute-efficient practices.
• Experience handling sparse, noisy, or imperfect data collected from laboratory, heavy industry, or applied research environments.
• Proven ability to collaborate closely with deployed or customer-facing teams to operationalize advanced machine learning methods.
