This role demands proficiency in conducting thorough end-to-end investigations into customer profiles, transactional patterns, sources of funds, and unusual account activities.
Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate customer accounts, transaction histories, and source of wealth to identify suspicious or unusual activities.
- Apply blockchain and wallet analysis using tools like Chainalysis, Elliptic, Fireblocks, or other similar platforms.
- Detect and assess exposure to sanctioned entities, high-risk wallets, darknet activities, mixers, fraud schemes, and jurisdictions considered high risk.
- Screen alerts from crypto transaction monitoring systems, using informed risk judgment to filter legitimate concerns from false positives.
- Analyze both on-chain and off-chain data to spot unusual patterns and emerging financial crime techniques such as layering, structuring, rapid fiat-crypto movements, and mixing service involvement.
- Identify and report new financial crime trends to continually improve monitoring systems.
- Enhance AML, Know Your Transaction (KYT), onboarding processes, wallet risk controls, and transaction monitoring frameworks.
- Tune crypto monitoring parameters to improve detection accuracy and minimize non-essential alerts.
- Keep detailed, audit-ready investigation records and documentation.
- Provide training and guidance to colleagues on crypto-specific financial crime risks, typologies, and best practices in transaction monitoring and onboarding.
- Contribute to the formulation and revision of crypto compliance policies and establish suitable risk appetite levels.
- Represent the compliance department in both internal forums and external regulatory or enforcement discussions regarding crypto financial crime matters.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for law enforcement in crypto-related investigations and asset recovery initiatives.
- Manage crypto compliance activities in line with leadership directives.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 7 years' professional experience in AML, financial crime compliance, transaction monitoring, or related investigative roles.
- Practical experience in conducting cryptocurrency and blockchain investigations.
- In-depth understanding of AML/Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), KYC/KYB procedures, sanctions regulations, and evolving financial crime schemes.
- Proficient with blockchain analysis and crypto compliance platforms such as Chainalysis, Fireblocks, Elliptic, or equivalents.
- Strong analytical mindset and investigative skills, coupled with proficiency in composing detailed reports and maintaining thorough documentation.
- Track record of developing or refining crypto compliance frameworks and operational processes.
- Experience collaborating with global law enforcement agencies and supporting asset recovery related to financial crime cases.
- Preferred experience in financial technology, payment systems, cryptocurrency, or digital asset sectors.
- Knowledge of both on-chain and off-chain transaction dynamics and specific risks associated with crypto financial crimes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of effectively representing compliance concerns to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with SQL and data analytics is advantageous.
- Experience leveraging artificial intelligence tools to enhance compliance, investigative, or analytic workflows is a beneficial plus.
Benefits
- Engage in a senior role specializing in crypto compliance and financial crime prevention.
- Hands-on experience with blockchain analytics, crypto transaction investigations, and managing AML/KYT controls.
- Influence the direction of crypto compliance policies, risk tolerances, and monitoring procedures.
- Collaborate closely with compliance leadership, various internal teams, and external enforcement bodies.
- Opportunity to develop and improve crypto-focused compliance controls and investigation capabilities.
