About Us
Hodges Accounting & Advisory is a progressive accounting firm based in West Perth, dedicated to collaborating mainly with privately owned and family-run businesses. We leverage modern cloud-based accounting tools and are increasingly incorporating AI to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and insightfulness of financial reporting and advisory services. Our focus lies in streamlining processes and improving integration, aiming to provide clients with comprehensive and clear financial perspectives while maintaining a personalized, judgment-driven approach.
Role Overview
We are inviting an experienced Senior Accountant, ideally with four to five years in public accounting practice, to join our West Perth team. This position involves direct client engagement, managing a client portfolio that requires both compliance and strategic advisory work. You will collaborate closely with partners and take substantial ownership in delivering top-quality financial and tax services, supporting client decision-making on cash flow, tax planning, structures, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance of our clients with all filing and lodgement requirements, including financial statements, income tax returns, BAS, for entities like companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals.
- Monitor adherence to banking covenants when applicable.
- Assist clients with tax planning, business structuring, ownership changes, and other advisory issues.
- Contribute to cash flow forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, and management reporting.
- Collaborate with client finance teams, bookkeepers, and finance managers to resolve issues and enhance the quality and relevance of financial data.
- Drive improvements in accounting systems and workflows, particularly involving Xero and integrated software tools.
- Review and provide feedback on work performed by junior and offshore team members.
- Manage client inquiries and nurture strong day-to-day client relationships.
- Support directors with complex or significant client projects.
- Ensure an exceptional client experience with Hodges Accounting & Advisory.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for working with diverse clients and enjoys the accounting profession.
- Possesses about four to five years of experience in Australian public practice accounting.
- Has solid technical expertise in business services, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
- Experience serving privately owned businesses and SMEs.
- Well-versed in Australian tax laws, GST/BAS, and accounting standards.
- Proficient with Xero and confident using cloud-based financial systems.
- Skilled in Excel and capable of handling financial data beyond basic compliance tasks.
- Experience mentoring and reviewing junior staff and offshore team outputs.
- Detail-oriented with strong team collaboration skills including working with offshore personnel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable liaising directly with clients.
- Ability to interpret the commercial implications of financial data and advise accordingly.
- Organized with strong multitasking abilities and capable of managing multiple deadlines.
- Holds a relevant degree in accounting or finance.
- Qualified CA or CPA, or well advanced in certification progress.
Our Expectations
More than technical proficiency, we value sound judgment and a proactive approach in understanding clients' businesses. The selected candidate will engage with clients immediately and gradually take on more responsibility in client management and advisory services, contributing to business development, and fostering a client-focused culture with a positive work atmosphere.
