Role Overview

The Senior Accountant position is a full-time, on-premises role located in Surrey, British Columbia. Candidates with a CPA designation or successful completion of the CFE and 2–3 years of public practice experience are preferred. Key responsibilities include the preparation and review of corporate and personal tax filings, financial statements, and supporting working paper documentation for a diverse client base consisting of small and medium-sized businesses as well as individuals.

Daily tasks encompass managing complete accounting engagements, conducting compilations and reviews, assisting with auditing activities, supplying business consulting advice, identifying tax planning opportunities, addressing client questions, and effectively communicating complex financial and tax matters professionally.

The role also involves mentoring junior staff, contributing to improving firm processes, and supporting the company’s dedication to exceptional client service.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Proficient technical knowledge in accounting processes including end-to-end accounting cycles, preparation of financial statements, and working paper documentation.
  • Strong capabilities in both corporate and personal taxation – encompassing tax return processing, planning strategies, and adherence to Canadian tax regulations.
  • Active CPA accreditation with Canadian public practice experience is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Canadian GAAP, auditing standards, and compliance norms applicable to small and medium enterprises.
  • Hands-on experience in assurance services including compilations, reviews, audits, and not-for-profit sector reporting.
  • Solid bookkeeping aptitude and general ledger management including reconciliations and payroll for small to medium businesses.
  • Familiarity with accounting and tax-related software, spreadsheet applications, and digital tools commonly deployed in public accounting environments.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving talents, combined with organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, meeting deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate financial and tax information clearly to clients and internal teams.
  • Team-oriented mindset capable of mentoring less experienced staff and cultivating constructive, lasting client relationships.
