Job description
About the Company
This well-established accounting firm has been operating for over 60 years, employing more than 75 staff members. Its prestigious client base ranges from startups to large private groups. The company was an early adopter of remote work, with staff located across Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Adelaide, supported by proven systems and effective communication processes that make remote collaboration seamless from day one.
The workplace culture is reflected in its employee retention, boasting an average tenure of six years, over half the team eligible for long service leave, and a longest-serving staff member with two decades at the firm. The firm respects work-life balance by eliminating after-hours communications and supports flexible work schedules tailored to individual needs. Annual leave is also managed with mutual understanding.
The firm prioritizes professional growth for remote employees by providing monthly in-house training, quarterly senior staff sessions, and external expert-led workshops, conducted live for all staff whether in-office or remote. Additionally, remote team members are invited to quarterly in-person meetups and celebrations, fostering connectivity without ongoing travel obligations.
Position Overview
There are two openings available, each role adaptable based on the candidate's strengths and preferences. One path suits those focused on technical expertise, complex compliance, tax planning, and review work with minimal client interaction. Alternatively, candidates interested in client relationships can engage in a blend of practical work and advisory services. Both roles benefit from an offshore team handling basic compliance, enabling senior staff to dedicate attention to high-value tasks such as group structures, planning, and advisory projects.
Reporting directly to an Associate Director and having direct access to the Partner ensures a flat organizational structure, granting autonomy in managing workload and daily activities. Compensation ranges from $110,000 to $130,000 plus superannuation, with individual and team bonuses available. Salary reviews occur twice annually, including a performance-based review at six months to recognize outstanding work promptly.
Remote employees receive comprehensive support with full home office setups, an onboarding program, and dedicated administrative and IT assistance.
Requirements
- At least six years of Australian public practice experience within business services at senior accountant, assistant manager, or manager levels.
- Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ) or CPA accreditation is mandatory.
- Experience across various entity types, including individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and group structures.
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns with a strong background in tax planning, trust distributions, Division 7A, and capital gains tax issues.
- Bonus qualifications include familiarity with FBT, small business capital gains tax concessions, and business advisory work, though not required.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with a capacity for independent workflow management.
- Open and effective communication skills suitable for remote team collaboration.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and skills enhancement.
- Experience with Xero, XPM, FYI Docs, and Active Workpapers is preferred. However, candidates familiar with MYOB AE, MYOB AO, HandiSoft, APS, or similar practice management software are encouraged, as training will be provided.
Additional Information
Besides this advertised role, there are several other confidential work-from-home opportunities within the accounting and financial services sector. Interested candidates are welcome to initiate a relaxed, confidential discussion instead of a formal application if they are exploring options.
