Job description

Position Overview

The Self Checkout Attendant role at Walmart Canada is an excellent chance to develop practical skills in retail service and customer engagement. This position focuses on facilitating a smooth and friendly checkout experience for customers using self-service registers, making it ideal for individuals interested in a fast-moving retail or customer service setting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly self checkout area, ensuring it is free from clutter, spills, and anything that may obstruct or create hazards.
  • Promote Walmart's programs such as credit card offers, product protection plans, and charitable campaigns when relevant and appropriate.
  • Assist customers in operating self checkout machines efficiently, offering guidance and overseeing transactions. Address any issues clearly and courteously, escalating cash or technical problems to management when required.
  • Respond promptly to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alerts, following set procedures and maintaining accurate records in the required logs.
  • Manage Scan & Go equipment by ensuring scanners are returned to their designated storage post-use.
  • Be available and flexible to work varying shifts, including evenings, holidays, and weekends, adapting to business needs to provide consistent customer service.

Challenges and Physical Expectations

  • The role involves managing a high workload in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to remain alert and energetic, particularly during overnight hours.
  • Physical tasks include standing for long periods, bending, lifting inventory or equipment weighing up to 20 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform repetitive duties such as restocking and organizing products with attention to detail to maintain store standards.

Compensation

The starting wage for this role is $19.25 per hour.
