Self Checkout Attendant

About the Role

Joining Walmart Canada as a Self-Checkout Attendant provides an excellent chance to develop in customer service and retail operations. This position focuses on ensuring customers have a smooth shopping experience by providing courteous assistance at the self-checkout stations within a dynamic retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep the self-checkout area tidy, safe, and well-organized, free from obstacles, spills, or unwanted items.
• Encourage participation in Walmart’s company programs such as credit card services, product protection plans, and charitable campaigns when applicable.
• Assist customers using self-checkout machines by offering guidance, monitoring transactions, explaining interventions courteously, and escalating cash or technical issues to management.
• Respond appropriately to electronic article surveillance (EAS) alarms and maintain accurate records in the failure to deactivate log.
• Manage and ensure Scan & Go equipment is neatly stored after use.
• Exhibit flexibility by being available to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays to meet operational demands.

Work Environment and Challenges

• Perform efficiently in a high-activity, fast-paced setting with a significant volume of tasks including restocking and recovery activities handled precisely and timely.
• Manage overnight shifts by planning to stay alert and focused through the duration.
• Carry out physically demanding tasks such as standing for long periods, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Repeat activities like stocking, zoning, and maintaining product organization with consistent attention to detail ensuring store standards are upheld.

Compensation

The starting hourly wage is $16.15.
