Job Overview

The Security Supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining the sanctity and safety of temple ordinances, ensuring accurate records, and providing an uplifting environment for church patrons. This role requires upholding the standards set by the First Presidency through effective management and protection of temple facilities, grounds, personnel, and visitors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and facilities during designated shifts.
  • Respond decisively to critical security threats and situations that endanger personal safety.
  • Act as first responder in emergencies such as fire and medical situations by administering first aid, CPR, and evacuating individuals from danger when necessary.
  • Handle disruptive or aggressive individuals by employing appropriate intervention tactics, including physical restraint and detention where lawful.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws, security policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Contribute to daily security operations and make recommendations for process and strategic improvements.
  • Oversee and mentor security personnel, providing training and performance evaluation where applicable.
  • Apply effective leadership and supervisory skills to foster employee growth and contractor performance.
  • Exhibit strong decision-making and leadership under pressure and during emergencies.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services to implement comprehensive security practices.
  • Develop innovative, culturally sensitive solutions to complex security challenges using sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Execute duties with autonomy, requiring minimal oversight.
  • Promptly respond to incidents and security missions.
  • Maintain familiarity with security technologies, systems, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate urgency when addressing critical security concerns.
  • Conduct security checks on access points and report vulnerabilities or unauthorized access risks for corrective actions.
  • Adapt to flexible working schedules and assignments based on operational needs.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and log unusual security events accurately.
  • Request extra support or emergency assistance as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must currently hold or be eligible to obtain a Temple Recommend.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Possess a diploma, certification, or formal training in Security Management, Law Enforcement, or a related area from an accredited institution.
  • Preferably have at least four years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a similar field; candidates with three years relevant experience including one year in security may be considered. Up to two years of education may substitute for required experience where applicable.
  • Working knowledge or ability to quickly learn technical security systems and equipment.
  • Must have no criminal record, negative police history, or affiliation with anti-government or anti-Church groups.
  • Successful completion of required screening, background checks, aptitude tests, and physical fitness assessments.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in both French and English to effectively operate in a bilingual environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Integrity, honesty, and accuracy in all communications and reports.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with ability to complete assignments efficiently and precisely.
  • Physical and mental fitness to perform security duties involving activities like climbing, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements. The role includes sedentary, moderate, and physically demanding tasks.
  • Excellent visual and observational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer technologies.
