Role Overview

The Security Researcher role involves comprehensive cybersecurity assessments of IT products, including embedded systems, firmware, software, and hardware devices. Responsibilities include hands-on vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, and technical evaluation to uncover security flaws and contribute to risk-based security reviews. The position works closely with experienced researchers and leadership to deliver high-quality security evaluations compliant with relevant standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine products, firmware, software, hardware components, interfaces, and technical documentation to identify attack vectors and security vulnerabilities.
• Conduct diverse security testing such as vulnerability assessments, firmware examination, reverse engineering, fuzz testing, logical attacks, debugging interface testing, cryptographic validation, and hardware security reviews.
• Gather and analyze technical data including logs, binaries, signal captures, measurement results, and test outputs.
• Prepare clear, detailed technical reports documenting findings, vulnerabilities, and test results.
• Maintain comprehensive records of testing procedures, tools used, configurations, collected evidence, and results for full traceability.
• Adhere to established cybersecurity procedures, quality standards, information security protocols, and industry regulations.
• Assist in managing security evaluation projects from planning through execution to delivery.
• Contribute to refining testing methods, creating scripts and tools, and developing reusable testing protocols.
• Engage in technical peer reviews, share knowledge, and participate in continuous improvement efforts.
• Keep up to date with latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, attack methods, and research relevant to product security.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, or related fields; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in cybersecurity evaluation, penetration testing, vulnerability research, software and hardware security assessment, embedded systems security, or reverse engineering.
• Hands-on expertise in one or more areas such as firmware analysis, penetration testing, reverse engineering, fuzzing, debug interface security testing, cryptographic validation, or hardware security audits.
• Strong knowledge of security testing methodologies, vulnerability assessments, penetration techniques, and security standards.
• Experience with security analysis and debugging tools, along with scripting and automation skills to support security evaluations.
• Understanding of secure software development lifecycle, common software vulnerabilities, and vulnerability management.
• Familiarity with embedded systems, IoT security, hardware product evaluation, cybersecurity research, or working in lab-based testing environments.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 or other cybersecurity/testing/quality management standards is a plus.
• Certifications like CEH, eJPT, Security+, OSCP or equivalent are preferred.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, documentation, and reporting skills to excel in a collaborative research setting.
