Job description
About the Role
- Develop and implement biodiversity monitoring initiatives, focusing on a Tier 2 terrestrial biodiversity framework tailored for the Waikato Region.
- Conduct data analysis and interpretation of environmental metrics to support State of the Environment reporting and communicate results effectively to varied audiences.
- Offer expert ecological and strategic advice to both internal teams and external stakeholders, aiding policy formulation, resource consent evaluations, and resource management decisions.
- Manage biodiversity data projects including scoping, overseeing contractors, and ensuring projects meet financial, timeline, and quality standards.
- Foster and maintain collaborative partnerships with external organizations to achieve shared environmental outcomes beyond individual capabilities.
Candidate Profile
- Proven technical expertise in ecology and biodiversity monitoring, including designing, implementing, and assessing monitoring programs and indicators.
- Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand’s ecology and biodiversity to provide dependable counsel for environmental management and decision-making.
- Strong skills in analyzing and communicating complex environmental data into practical advice for diverse stakeholders.
- Effective project management and stakeholder engagement abilities to coordinate multifaceted projects fostering productive collaboration.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a relevant postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in ecology, biology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience exceeding 15 years.
- Valid full New Zealand driver's license is mandatory.
