Job description
Role Summary
The Scientist-B will be responsible for scaling up chemical processes from the bench to pilot scale, ensuring smooth execution of experimental batches with focus on optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting process parameters to uphold batch quality and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage chemical scale-up activities from laboratory to pilot plant, including experimental, scale-up, and validation batches.
- Optimize process variables, monitor critical operating conditions, and resolve any batch or process deviations effectively.
- Adhere strictly to approved Standard Operating Procedures, process instructions, and safety protocols throughout operations.
- Prepare, review, and maintain detailed Batch Manufacturing Records, batch sheets, SOPs, equipment logbooks, and relevant process documentation.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive recording of all process parameters, observations, sampling data, results, and deviations during pilot plant operations.
- Coordinate raw material planning, availability, and procurement necessary for pilot plant experiments and process execution.
- Oversee and coordinate Cleaning-In-Place (CIP), Sterilization-In-Place (SIP), equipment cleaning, line clearance, and readiness tasks for the pilot plant.
- Monitor equipment condition, collaborate on calibration, preventive and breakdown maintenance to reduce downtime.
- Guide and supervise trainee chemists, scientists, officers, operators, and contract labor in technical and operational tasks.
- Innovate and implement enhanced methodologies to improve process efficiency, safety, yield, product quality, and economic viability.
- Maintain compliance with approved protocols, process safety norms, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and uphold plant discipline to promote a safe and productive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient in microbiological techniques, distillation processes, microfiltration, and chromatography.
- Experience in handling fermenters at R&D and pilot scales.
- Strong analytical capabilities and proficiency in instrument handling.
- Effective communication skills.
