About the Role
The School Librarian will oversee the efficient operation and growth of the school library, providing an inviting, organized, and stimulating environment that fosters learning. This role involves supporting both students and teachers in accessing diverse, high-quality educational materials while encouraging a robust culture of reading, research, and lifelong learning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage daily library functions and organizational tasks ensuring smooth operation.
- Curate and sustain a relevant and engaging collection of books and educational resources suitable for various age groups.
- Assist students in enhancing their skills related to reading, research, information literacy, and independent learning.
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff to facilitate curriculum-aligned research and learning activities.
- Coordinate reading programs, library events, book displays, and literacy-promoting initiatives.
- Maintain precise records of all library materials, including loans, returns, and new acquisitions.
- Foster an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere within the library space.
- Guide students in selecting suitable reading materials tailored to their interests and academic requirements.
- Ensure that library resources are kept up-to-date, relevant, and consistent with educational goals.
- Engage with the broader school community, aligning with the institution’s values and safeguarding standards.
Candidate Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, English, or a closely related discipline is essential.
- Prior experience as a school librarian or within an educational library setting is desirable.
- Comprehensive understanding of library management systems and information resource organization.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and capability to manage time effectively.
- Genuine enthusiasm for reading, literacy development, and supporting student learning journeys.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, learners, and school leadership.
- Proficiency in English communication skills.
- Experience working within an international school environment is preferred.
