Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned safety leader passionate about influencing organisational safety strategy, driving ongoing improvements, and fostering robust safety cultures. As Safety Lead, you will direct the enhancement and management of our Safety Management System and provide expert guidance across all departments to ensure our workforce’s wellbeing.
This senior specialist position reports directly to the Interim Chief People Officer and collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board, organisational leaders, and regulatory bodies. Additionally, you will serve as the Senior Person accountable for MetService's Safety Management System under the Civil Aviation Authority Part 174 Exposition, making this a crucial leadership role within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and continually improve MetService's Safety Strategy Management System
- Offer strategic and operational health and safety counsel throughout the organisation
- Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, aviation safety standards, and regulatory mandates
- Lead incident management including response, investigation, and corrective measures
- Enhance organisational capability through coaching, training, and hands-on guidance
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen risk management and safety outcomes
- Prepare comprehensive reports for the Board, Executive Leadership Team, and regulatory agencies
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years in a senior health and safety role
- Relevant health and safety certification or qualification
- In-depth understanding of New Zealand health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Proven ability to influence and build trusted relationships at all organisational levels
- Strong skills in analysis, problem-solving, and report writing
- Experience in aviation or other highly regulated sectors is advantageous
