Job description
Role Overview
Join the Aditya Birla Group as the Safety Head for the Samri cluster of bauxite mines in Jharkhand. This key role involves driving safety management and compliance while working closely with unit heads and cross-functional teams to foster a culture of zero harm across the cluster.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual safety walk targets alongside unit leaders across the Samri bauxite mining sites.
- Execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safety compliance rigorously.
- Support planning and budgeting efforts related to safety equipment procurement and infrastructure upgrades to ensure safer working environments.
- Collaborate on cost projections and cash flow management concerning safety-related projects for upcoming financial years.
- Work closely with Mining Operations, Geology, Engineering, and support teams to reduce incidents and prevent accidents, sharing insights for continuous improvement of workplace safety.
- Ensure statutory compliance deadlines are met per the Director General of Mine Safety (DGMS) guidelines.
- Facilitate ISO 45001 audits, enforce necessary corrective actions, and implement Integrated Management System (IMS) safety guidelines.
- Conduct and review risk assessments periodically, maintaining thorough documentation.
- Develop and deliver safety mechanisms and training programs targeting all employees, including contractual staff, to promote a strong safety culture.
- Lead safety walks, monthly incident-free celebrations, and closely supervise adherence to personal protective equipment usage, waste management, and radiological safety at Occupational Health Centres (OHCs).
- Monitor and investigate unsafe behaviors and conditions through Behaviour Based Safety Observations (BBSO) and root cause analyses of incidents.
- Carry out inspections of staff colonies and contract labor quarters, educating workers and their families on safe practices and recording any safety violations observed.
- Oversee fire safety protocol enforcement, and coordinate fire safety drills with safety officers and volunteer training officers (VTO).
- Deliver safety trainings and awareness sessions to all employee levels, ensuring contract agreements include safety clauses through collaboration with commercial teams.
- Enhance personal protective equipment usage via regular inspections and educational initiatives on site.
Requirements
- Experience in managing safety in mining operations, preferably in bauxite or similar minerals.
- Thorough knowledge of DGMS regulations and ISO 45001 standards.
- Ability to lead audits, implement corrective actions, and conduct detailed risk assessments.
- Strong organizational skills to manage budgeting and cost control related to safety projects.
- Excellent communication and training facilitation skills to engage diverse employee groups including contract labor.
