Ruby on Rails Developer

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Ruby on Rails Developer to design, build, test, and sustain reliable web applications leveraging the Ruby on Rails framework. This permanent remote role occasionally requires attending meetings in person. The developer will partner with various teams to create scalable, secure, and high-performing software solutions aligned with business needs and modern development standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and analyze software requirements.
• Design, implement, test, and deploy scalable web apps using Ruby on Rails.
• Produce clean, efficient, and maintainable Ruby code compliant with best practices.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and incorporate third-party integrations.
• Engage in code reviews to uphold code quality and uniformity.
• Investigate and fix software bugs and optimize performance issues.
• Enhance application speed and scalability.
• Work alongside frontend teams, product managers, and designers to deliver features.
• Participate in system architecture and technical design sessions.
• Ensure application security and safeguard data integrity.
• Document codebases, systems, and workflows thoroughly.
• Continuously update knowledge on emerging technologies and industry trends.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of software development experience with a primary focus on Ruby on Rails.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby programming and the Ruby on Rails framework.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React.
• Comprehensive understanding of MVC architecture and RESTful API design principles.
• Experience working with relational databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Proficient with version control tools, specifically Git.
• Experience with background processing frameworks such as Sidekiq or Resque is advantageous.
• Knowledge of cloud services like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is a plus.
• Working knowledge of testing tools like RSpec or Minitest.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities coupled with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Experience within the UK Public Sector is beneficial but not mandatory.
