Overview

A Roustabout plays a crucial role as an entry-level laborer on oil and gas rigs, handling a variety of physically demanding duties needed for daily operations under challenging conditions. This role entails cleaning, organizing, moving supplies, helping with drilling tasks, operating lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts, and carrying out minor repairs, all while rigorously following safety standards to maintain operational efficiency and safety.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain the rig site by cleaning, painting, and organizing the deck, pipe deck, rig floor, and nearby areas to keep a safe and tidy environment.
• Manage materials by loading, unloading, transporting, and storing equipment, pipes, and supplies using hand tools as well as machinery like forklifts and cranes.
• Support equipment operations by preparing machinery, assisting technicians such as mechanics and electricians, inspecting pipes for leaks, and performing routine upkeep.
• Assist with drilling activities by supporting senior personnel such as roughnecks and derrickmen, mixing chemicals, and contributing to operational tasks.
• Ensure safety by acting as a fire watch, responding promptly to spills, and ensuring all activities comply with stringent safety protocols.

Working Conditions

This role typically involves physically intense tasks in hard environments, often requiring long working shifts. Workers may reside onsite for extended periods, sometimes weeks at a time.
