About the Role
Become an essential member of the Southern Region team based at the Basingstoke ROC, contributing directly to the smooth running of one of the UK's busiest railway networks covering Wessex, Sussex, and Kent. As a permanent full-time Roster Clerk, you will design effective and economical staff schedules that adhere strictly to operational guidelines, rostering principles, and necessary competence requirements, helping to maintain vital passenger and freight services.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and distribute staff rosters using the Corporate Rostering Tool aligned with National Rostering Principles, company policies, and quality standards.
- Prepare weekly and daily duty rosters accommodating sickness, vacation, training sessions, briefings, and special personnel arrangements.
- Coordinate with local managerial staff to verify roster information for accuracy.
- Handle last-minute adjustments to rosters, promptly informing affected personnel and supervisors, and resolving related queries.
- Maintain detailed leave records and manage annual leave scheduling.
- Organize rosters for medical assessments, interviews, and renewals of safety-critical competencies.
- Ensure all competency data is up to date and no shifts are assigned to staff with expired qualifications.
- Perform validation checks on roster data before and after payroll processing and ensure timely submission of amendments to payroll.
- Analyze fatigue data and report concerns to line management.
- Provide precise data and reports to support route-level information needs.
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive knowledge of National Rostering Principles is essential.
- Proven capacity to prioritize tasks efficiently and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work collaboratively.
- Experience in data analysis and report generation.
- Good understanding of service conditions and rostering software systems.
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong data management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team setting, including through virtual collaboration.
- Solid general IT proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with payment processes for rostered employees.
- Geographical knowledge covering the railway route.
- Understanding of the UK rail industry environment.
