Job Overview

Collaborating closely with the Corporate Disability Manager, the Return to Work Coordinator is tasked with overseeing employees impacted by illness or injury. This includes crafting and executing rehabilitation strategies, vocational rehabilitation initiatives, return to work schedules, and duty to accommodate arrangements. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the design, rollout, and upkeep of injury prevention programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the key liaison with the Workers Compensation Board (WCB).
  • Communicate with WCB, medical practitioners, and associated agencies to manage claims.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to implement return to work plans, including graduated programs and workplace accommodations.
  • Oversee management of Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Gather job and employee data through observation, measurements, and interviews to facilitate return to work efforts and oversee modified work programs.
  • Provide guidance to management and employees regarding return to work coordination.
  • Monitor claims for any irregularities.
  • Conduct cost-benefit assessments for challenging cases to determine optimal strategies.
  • Track medical absences comprehensively.
  • Maintain correspondence with employees, managers, and HR teams to ensure all return to work documentation is complete and addressed.
  • Adhere strictly to ethical, professional, and legal standards according to company policies.
  • Support the development and dissemination of Stay at Work/Return to Work policies and protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferred completion of post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or related Return to Work Coordination fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Return to Work Coordinator, ideally within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • In-depth understanding of the Return to Work process and practical application.
  • Exemplary diplomacy, with abilities in negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal relations.
  • Thorough knowledge of Prince Edward Island’s Workers Compensation legislation, Human Rights, Health and Safety, and Employment Standards relevant to disability and return to work management.
  • Analytical aptitude to identify underlying issues related to disability cases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email correspondence.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and team-building strengths.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and capable of functioning independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.

  • The salary range for this role is between $55,000 and $68,000 per year.
