Retail Custodian - Gainesville

Position Overview

As a Retail Custodian at Goodwill of Greater Washington in Gainesville, VA, you will be responsible for implementing preventive cleaning services within the retail store adhering to environmentally friendly cleaning practices along with industry standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure assigned retail areas are clean, safe from hazards under the custodian’s control, and ready for customers before store opening.
• Carry out cleaning functions including dusting all surfaces such as lights, furniture, and shelves; dry and wet mopping of hard floors; vacuuming carpets; emptying and cleaning trash and ash containers; spot cleaning walls, carpets, and windows; and using a high-speed buffer to polish hard floors.
• Maintain cleanliness and basic security of assigned cleaning equipment.
• Report any equipment or facility repairs needed, as well as potential safety concerns, to the supervisor promptly.
• Perform physical tasks involving frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds; continuous walking and standing; along with routine bending, reaching, and stooping.

Additional Responsibilities

• Keep assigned cleaning tools and equipment clean and functional.
• Notify supervisors about equipment or facility maintenance issues and safety hazards.

Required Qualifications

• At least two years of prior commercial cleaning experience.
• Ability to accurately follow both written and oral instructions.
• Competency in recognizing and understanding safety hazard signs.
• Proficient knowledge of cleaning techniques and operation of equipment such as scrubbers and extractors as per site requirements.
• Demonstrated reliability and dependability in previous roles.
• Excellent customer service capabilities, including effective communication with customers, colleagues, and supervisors to consistently deliver professional results.
• Successful passing of background and drug screening checks as required at the worksite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior custodial experience is an advantage.
