About the Role

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), a government-funded research hub in Abu Dhabi, UAE, spearheads cutting-edge projects across multiple scientific disciplines. This position is situated within TII's Robotics Research Center, focusing on the development of civil aerial robotic systems. The incumbent will contribute to the integration of diverse technological modules, translating research efforts into operational prototypes for real-world deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage autopilot configurations: install, maintain, and optimize autopilot systems across various drone platforms to achieve optimal flight performance.
• Payload integration tasks: install, set up, and validate payloads such as imaging (RGB, multispectral, thermal), sensing (LiDAR, SAR, environmental sensors), and actuation tools (spraying, seeding, custom implements) to fulfill mission requirements.
• Autonomy and mission systems: adapt and configure autonomy components and SDK-based platforms to facilitate automated mission execution.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
• At least two years of professional experience in flight control systems, UAV integration, or associated technical fields.
• Proficient with autopilot systems and software frameworks, including PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs or their equivalents, as well as simulation environments like Gazebo and ROS2 middleware.
• Strong programming capabilities in C, C++, and Python, particularly for embedded systems, integration tasks, and automation scripting.
• In-depth familiarity with various UAV platforms, autopilot hardware, payloads, and communication protocols.
• Experience with debugging software and hardware, flight control system integration, and simulation tools.
• Possessing a drone pilot license and practical flight experience is advantageous.
