Job description
Overview
ICS Medical Devices is seeking an experienced Research and Development Engineer to drive the identification, evaluation, and creation of cutting-edge technologies that will expand and enhance our medical device offerings. This role suits self-motivated engineers with proven industry expertise who desire increased responsibility, autonomy, and influence over technological strategy, while continuing to advance their professional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and evaluate new and emerging technologies applicable to medical devices.
- Design and create proofs of concept along with functional prototypes to validate innovations.
- Lead feasibility studies and technical assessments independently.
- Work collaboratively across departments including Design, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing.
- Contribute to technology roadmapping and aid in strategic innovation planning.
- Document technical work thoroughly in compliance with medical device regulatory requirements.
- Support deployment and qualification processes for newly implemented technologies and manufacturing methods.
- Continuously monitor external advancements, industry standards, and competitor developments for informed strategic decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related field.
- Between three and six years of engineering experience, preferably within medical devices or other regulated industries.
- Practical experience with new or emerging methods such as laser welding/cutting, thermal bonding, ultrasonic welding, coating technologies, 3D printing, automation, or related technological applications.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities capable of autonomous work.
- Ability to balance innovative ideas with regulatory and quality considerations including risk assessment.
- Knowledge of standards like ISO 13485, ISO 14971, or equivalent is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Solidworks CAD software, PLC programming, and designing equipment.
- Capability to translate technical problems into actionable requirements supporting equipment design and testing activities.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
