Job description
Role Overview
The Regional Estimator position is pivotal in both commercial and technical areas, focusing on delivering precise pricing, engaging subcontractors, and maintaining up-to-date pipeline information. This role, based at home with occasional travel across the UK, reports to the Group Commercial Director and coordinates day-to-day with the Regional Commercial Manager to effectively manage tender requests involving solar and roofing subcontractors.
Core Responsibilities
- Generate swift and accurate costings using Solfit's proprietary automated pricing software, ensuring consistency according to established group pricing frameworks and guidelines.
- Apply pre-approved pricing rates, frameworks, and standards, escalating any exceptional pricing or discount requests to the Commercial Director for approval.
- Align costings efficiently to contractor tender inquiries using standardized housebuilder design templates.
- Maintain proactive communication with subcontractors to monitor tender progress, project start dates, and identify successful bidders.
- Ensure CRM systems are regularly updated with live feedback, schedules, and win/loss data to preserve clear commercial visibility.
- Support UK supply chain logistics by providing precise conversion data and anticipated project start times that assist in inventory and component forecast planning.
- Collaborate closely with the Regional Commercial Manager to prioritize tenders and meet client deadlines.
- Manage the gating of design resources by pricing tenders through approved software tools and only involving the internal Technical & Design team post site acquisition confirmation.
- Identify and recommend opportunities where contractors might make use of Solfit's added services including technical support, onboarding, quality audits, and compliance documentation.
Experience & Knowledge
- Preferably have a foundational background in electrical systems, whether residential or commercial contracting, or an understanding of electrical estimating processes.
- Knowledgeable about the residential new-build supply chain, specifically how manufacturer specifications influence subcontractor tenders and distribution pathways.
- Solar PV estimating or system configuration experience is advantageous, though comprehensive training in relevant technical and software aspects will be provided.
Skills and Personal Attributes
- Highly methodical with keen attention to numerical details and the ability to interpret drawings accurately.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple tender quotes simultaneously.
- Strong proactive communication skills, comfortable with telephone engagement to maintain relationships and gather tender progress information.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms and proprietary pricing software, with discipline in maintaining thorough and updated records.
- Self-motivated to work from a home office environment, requiring minimal supervision.
