Position Overview

The Regional Compliance Manager role will be based in one of the WHH country offices within Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, or Malawi. The position has an initial one-year contract with promising possibilities for renewal. The successful candidate will manage corporate compliance activities within the East & Southern Africa Regional Directorate, overseeing compliance staff and focal points across program countries.

The employment will adhere to national terms and salary structures relevant to the selected duty station. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the chosen country without the need for employer-sponsored visas or relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead corporate compliance management including fraud and corruption prevention, conflict of interest oversight, sanctions screening, data protection, safeguarding, and handling sensitive complaints within the Regional Directorate.
• Provide functional leadership and guidance to compliance personnel and focal points to ensure consistent execution of WHH’s global compliance policies.
• Deploy and strengthen the Corporate Compliance Management Program, emphasizing preventive, detective, and reactive processes throughout country offices.
• Conduct corporate compliance training sessions for staff and partners, maintaining comprehensive training documentation.
• Ensure sensitive compliance grievances are directed through WHH's global Complaints Response Mechanism.
• Initiate or oversee sensitive compliance investigations within the region.
• Work closely with departments such as Legal & Compliance at HQ, Human Resources, IT, Finance, Supply Chain, and Project Management to synchronize efforts.
• Offer operational and strategic compliance counsel to Regional Management and Country Directors.
• Represent WHH Compliance at external expert gatherings, professional networks, and associations where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

• University degree in Law, Management, Administration, Audit, Finance/Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience, ideally in a comparable compliance management role, demonstrating strong understanding of corporate compliance and risk management.
• Familiarity with the humanitarian sector and experience working in multicultural, diverse environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with competence in process establishment, maintenance, improvement, and utilization of relevant tools and methodologies.
• Proven experience in delivering training and capacity development coupled with excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing abilities.
• High standards of integrity, self-motivation, organization, detail orientation, collaboration, and resilience under stress.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
• Keen interest in expanding knowledge and applying data-driven approaches within compliance work.
• Willingness and ability to undertake travel within project locations in the country.
