Job Summary
The Refund Specialist plays a key role in monitoring and issuing patient and insurance refunds accurately and efficiently, handling excess payments recorded in billing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, investigate, and resolve credit balance issues and refunds originating from billing system overpayments.
- Evaluate refund request letters and determine refunds based on contractual agreements and timely submission guidelines.
- Detect refund-related trends and report findings to relevant departments.
- Navigate insurer websites to obtain Explanation of Benefits (EOB) information as part of refund verification.
- Communicate with insurance carriers to confirm refund details and ensure accuracy.
- Analyze data from multiple reports to provide actionable recommendations.
- Undertake special projects and additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- At least two years of experience posting insurance payments within a healthcare environment.
- Preferably two years of experience interpreting Explanation of Benefits statements.
Skills and Abilities
- A strong understanding of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documentation.
- Familiarity with a wide range of insurance plan types.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software applications.
- Strong numerical aptitude including basic arithmetic and working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Capable of interpreting and applying state and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
- Proactive problem-solving and ability to troubleshoot innovatively.
- Adaptability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner.
Compensation and Incentives
