About IQM Quantum Computers
IQM specializes in developing state-of-the-art quantum computers aimed at addressing computational challenges beyond the capabilities of classical systems. Our work merges cutting-edge scientific research with robust engineering to create reliable full-stack quantum computing solutions that enable breakthroughs in fields including medicine, energy, and technology.
Role Overview
We seek a Quantum Engineer at any level from Junior to Senior with an experimental background to join our Calibration and Benchmarking team. Your primary responsibility is to enhance the performance of superconducting Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) through hands-on development, optimization, and implementation of calibration and benchmarking protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct calibration and benchmarking experiments on next-generation QPUs.
- Create and refine calibration protocols and optimize strategies for large-scale quantum processors.
- Interpret experimental data to discover performance limitations and improvement opportunities.
- Measure various superconducting qubit device iterations and relay findings to design, simulation, and fabrication teams.
- Contribute to overall system optimization balancing performance and operational efficiency.
- Provide input for developing calibration software and automated QPU tune-up frameworks.
- Support calibration, validation, and deployment readiness of QPUs.
- Collaborate across hardware, software, and systems engineering divisions.
- For senior levels: mentor junior members and participate in cross-team technical initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Junior: M.Sc. in Physics, Quantum Engineering or related discipline.
- Engineer: Ph.D. in Physics or related field, or equivalent quantum technology experience.
- Senior: Postdoctoral research or comparable industrial experience in quantum technologies.
- Strong grasp of quantum mechanics and quantum computing principles.
- Proficiency in Python programming and scientific data analysis.
- Excellent analytical abilities and meticulous attention to experimental data.
- Capable of collaborative work in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with superconducting qubits and calibration methodologies.
- Knowledge of optimization algorithms.
- Familiarity with experimental quantum hardware and calibration workflows.
Ideal Personal Traits
- Inquisitive and driven to enhance quantum hardware functionality.
- Comfortable working directly with experimental setups.
- Strong communicator with collaborative team spirit.
- Detail-focused with strong critical thinking skills.
- Motivated to contribute towards scalable quantum computing systems.
Why Join IQM?
- Work across the full quantum stack from hardware to software and beyond.
- Dynamic work environment promoting work-life balance with hybrid and flexible arrangements.
- Culture of continuous learning with approachable and flat management.
- Opportunity to be part of a fast-growing company that makes a global impact.
- Access to extensive quantum ecosystem knowledge through publications, hackathons, and collaborations.
