About the Company and Role

We are seeking a seasoned Quantity Surveyor to join an expanding construction firm based at their Leeds office, which serves as their UK headquarters. The company is well-regarded for executing premium commercial construction, refurbishments, fit-outs, and Design & Build ventures, collaborating with leading corporate, property, and institutional clients throughout the UK and Ireland. As the business scales its UK footprint, they aim to strengthen their commercial team by recruiting a QS with a strong sense of project ownership. Project scopes vary significantly, ranging from smaller commercial undertakings to substantial projects exceeding £30 million, presenting a rich and diverse workload.

Role Responsibilities

This pivotal, hands-on role requires a commercially savvy Quantity Surveyor who can oversee projects from initiation through to completion. The successful candidate will contribute from the earliest project phases, providing commercial insights and cost estimating, continuing through procurement, delivery, cost tracking, forecasting, final account management, and project closure.

• Proficient with Contract Variations Reports (CVRs) for managing project financial performance.
• Experienced in managing fully subcontracted works.
• Deep understanding of JCT Design & Build contractual frameworks.
• Holds a genuine Design & Build perspective, appreciating the commercial interplay among design, procurement, and construction.
• Ability to handle full project lifecycle management, from estimation support to final account settlement.
• High competency in Excel for CVRs, forecasting, and financial data analysis.
• Familiarity with E-evolution software for commercial reporting.

Project values typically range from £1 million up to £30 million or more, providing valuable exposure to varied and complex schemes. The company frequently collaborates with notable blue-chip clients, prominent property investors, developers, and corporate tenants, with much of its business derived from repeat engagements and strong client partnerships.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will be commercially sharp, technically skilled, and confident in taking full responsibility. The role extends beyond basic reporting; candidates must actively engage with project nuances, challenge costs, supervise subcontractors, forecast precisely, and work closely with operations and pre-construction teams to safeguard margins and ensure project success. Relevant experience in commercial construction, fit-out, refurbishment, or Design & Build is advantageous. Importantly, candidates must embrace the Design & Build methodology, overseeing projects from early estimating stages to completion.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary between £60,000 and £67,000.
