Role Overview

Research is fundamental at WorldQuant. Researchers are engaged in innovative and unrestricted exploration of data applications within financial markets to discover new alphas. They develop mathematical data expressions that serve as inputs to quantitative models designed to predict market behavior.

This position seeks a highly capable Quantitative Researcher who possesses a solid grasp of the investment research lifecycle and creates algorithmic models to forecast moves in global financial markets. Previous financial experience is advantageous but not mandatory; however, candidates must display a genuine interest in finance and global market dynamics. Essential attributes include a research-oriented mindset, self-motivation, creativity, persistence, and enthusiasm for tackling unsolved challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithm-based computer models to analyze financial data.
  • Investigate academic research in quantitative finance literature.
  • Examine novel datasets for potential predictive value.
  • Integrate innovative techniques from Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Financial Economics.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in Artificial Intelligence and large language model research to identify integration opportunities in quantitative finance.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree from a prestigious institution in analytical or quantitative disciplines such as Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering.
  • Possess deep analytical thinking, creativity, perseverance, inquisitiveness, self-initiative, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking abilities with a flair for unconventional approaches.
  • Proficient in programming languages including C++ and/or Python.
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with machine learning, scientific libraries like NumPy and pandas, and frameworks such as PyTorch and Keras.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted programming tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenCode, Roo Code).
  • Eagerness to expand knowledge about global financial markets.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Awards or medals from international or regional Mathematical, Programming, or Physics Olympiads.
  • Exceptional academic achievements, including a PhD or its equivalent, scientific publications, presentations, grants, or honors.
  • Relevant work history in research or software engineering.
  • Understanding of financial economics topics such as portfolio theory, asset pricing, corporate finance, and derivatives.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with AI, Machine Learning, and large language models.
