Wise is a global technology firm focused on revolutionizing how money moves and is managed worldwide. With minimal fees, maximum simplicity, and high speed, Wise facilitates international money transfers, cross-border spending, and global payments, aiming to simplify lives and save money for individuals and businesses around the globe.

Role Summary

We are inviting applications for a Quantitative Researcher or Quantitative Developer to join our Treasury FX Data Science team. This role involves building and maintaining the models and production systems that underpin FX pricing, risk management, and trading strategies. Your contributions will influence Wise's mission, impacting millions of customers.

Team and Responsibilities

You will be part of the Treasury FX Data Science team, responsible for owning quantitative models and production infrastructure critical to managing FX risk across over USD 250 billion in annual FX volume. Our ecosystem supports a broad customer base from individual remittance senders to tier-1 global investment banks via Wise's platform.

The broader Treasury FX team is composed of quants, traders, analysts, product managers, and engineers collaborating to price, hedge, and manage FX operations in real-time. Within this, the Data Science team leads a Python-centric, production-level quant platform offering multi-instrument pricing, product modeling and monitoring, risk analytics, and trading strategy development.

Focus Areas

  • Quantitative Researcher: Enhance and refine pricing, forecasting, risk analytics, and hedging models through rigorous backtesting and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Quantitative Developer: Advance production services, shared quantitative libraries, and ensure engineering reliability, translating quantitative research into robust production systems.

Your role focus will align with your expertise, but there will be opportunities to contribute across both domains. A solid foundation in Python, quantitative reasoning, and production responsibility is expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary specialization in either production quantitative engineering or applied quantitative modeling.
  • Implement quantitative models in Python, transitioning research or prototypes into dependable production code.
  • Conduct validation, backtesting, and continuous monitoring of models and services against actual outcomes.
  • Manage deployment processes, respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and drive ongoing improvements with stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and maintain shared quantitative libraries utilized across services.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines and oversee deployments ensuring operational excellence.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and reliability systems for real-time pricing and risk management.

Growth Opportunities

  • Oversee market data management and integrate new data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design innovative quantitative infrastructure and systems.
  • Work with the Risk team on backtesting frameworks, model validation, Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, and scenario analysis.
  • Engage in customer behavior modeling, pricing strategies, and product development.
  • Partner with product teams to convert quantitative insights into customer-centric decisions.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in quantitative research or engineering complemented by advanced Python programming skills.
  • Strong quantitative foundation from mathematics, physics, engineering, or finance, with the capacity to critically evaluate models.
  • Preferred but not mandatory experience includes:
    • Familiarity with FX or broader financial markets.
    • Knowledge of term structure modeling, stochastic calculus, or Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
    • Experience with interest rate curve bootstrapping.
    • Background in algorithmic execution.
    • Familiarity with data lakes or warehouses such as Snowflake, Iceberg, or Spark.
  • A product-oriented mindset that considers system users and their needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional work with quants, analysts, traders, product managers, and engineers.
  • Proven experience taking quantitative research into production, including ownership of validation, monitoring, and iterative enhancements.

Additional Qualifications by Track

  • Researcher: Demonstrated expertise in quantitative finance research, with significant contributions to pricing, forecasting, risk, or trading models. Ability to translate complex financial problems into quantitative frameworks, select suitable methods, and communicate assumptions and limitations.
  • Experienced in designing backtests and out-of-sample validation that account for data leakage, transaction costs, and market dynamics.
  • Developer: Skilled in streaming technologies, real-time data pipelines, or event-driven systems like Kafka, Flink, or Redis.
  • Competent in testing, monitoring, and debugging sophisticated systems under load conditions.
  • Strong background in microservices, databases, and maintaining production infrastructures.

Diversity and Inclusion

Wise is committed to creating a borderless and prejudice-free environment. We champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a workplace where all employees feel valued, empowered, and able to progress. We especially encourage applications from under-represented groups. Qualifications are flexible if balanced by excellent experience and clear communication.
