Job description

About Bruqe

Bruqe is a systems-intelligence advisory firm dedicated to assisting leaders in making critical decisions within complex and rapidly evolving environments. We collaborate with clients from corporate, investment, and public sectors on pivotal issues that influence their long-term directions such as capital allocation, competitiveness, resilience, market entry and expansion, technology and investment strategies, supply chain robustness, and significant industrial or policy transitions.

Our methodology integrates strategy, market intelligence, policy analysis, and quantitative modeling powered by AI-driven analytics, causal and scenario modeling, alongside proprietary system-mapping tools. This approach allows us to reveal the interconnectedness of market, technological, policy, economic, and organizational factors, enabling clients to rigorously test strategies against plausible future scenarios and identify the most impactful strategic moves beyond mere single-point forecasts.

The Role

This full-time, on-site Quantitative Research Scientist role located in Sydney involves collaboration with senior advisors throughout entire project lifecycles—from defining strategic questions to delivering final presentations to clients.

  • Defining and researching: Scope complex questions related to long-term uncertainty, transition risks, growth dynamics, resilience, or competitive positioning. Conduct structured investigations including literature reviews, data gathering, and synthesizing diverse market, technological, policy, economic, and social indicators into actionable insights.
  • Scenario and systems development: Build detailed scenario narratives, define assumptions, create uncertainty frameworks, and develop early-warning indicators that signal emerging future trends. Assist in constructing systems maps and causal models that highlight dependencies, incentives, constraints, feedback loops, and indirect effects.
  • Analysis and implications: Perform sensitivity analyses on strategic options, evaluating what various futures imply for strategy, capital allocation, operating models, partnerships, and capability requirements.
  • Client communications: Translate complex findings into clear, evidence-based memos, presentations, and other deliverables designed for effective senior leadership discussion and decision-making.
  • Internal contributions: Support enhancement of Bruqe's internal knowledge systems including foresight methodologies, industry analytics, models, and reusable templates to improve future project efficiency and quality.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in economics, public policy, engineering, business, international relations, sustainability, technology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience within strategic consulting, research, policy analysis, corporate planning, investment evaluation, or other analytically intensive environments.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, adept at constructing structured logical arguments, interpreting complex systems, and handling data effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills enabling the conveyance of complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A genuine fascination with strategic foresight, scenario planning, systems thinking, geopolitical dynamics, or technological and market shifts.
  • Comfort operating across interdisciplinary domains and embracing uncertainty rather than settling on narrow single-outcome forecasts.
  • Familiarity with modeling, scenario development, or data visualization software constitutes an asset.
  • Ability to multitask effectively within a small, high-performing team environment, maintaining attention to detail under time constraints.

Success Metrics

Success in this position is defined by assisting clients in moving from a state of broad uncertainty towards disciplined and informed strategic decision-making. This entails identifying key forces capable of significantly influencing outcomes, clarifying the implications of diverse future scenarios for their organizations, and enabling decisions resilient to evolving uncertainties.
