Job description
Role Overview
As a Quality Control Engineer specializing in sheet metal, you will be responsible for ensuring that sheet metal products align with approved blueprints, customer demands, and stringent quality standards through thorough inspections at various production stages.
Core Duties
- Inspect incoming raw materials including MS, SS, GI, aluminium sheets verifying grade, thickness, size, quantity, and certificates.
- Conduct in-process checks post laser cutting, shearing, bending, welding, ensuring dimensions, angles, hole diameters, flatness, and critical measurements meet specifications.
- Perform final visual and dimensional inspections to verify product quality, surface finish, weld integrity, and identification before dispatch.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all inspection phases and calibration of instruments.
- Utilize various measuring tools ensuring their calibration validity is maintained.
- Identify non-conforming products, segregate defective items, communicate quality concerns, and oversee corrective actions.
Technical Expertise
- Experience with laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake bending, shearing, welding, grinding, deburring, surface finishing, assembly processes, and powder coating where applicable.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T principles, dimensional and visual inspection, sampling, and ISO 9001 standards.
- Knowledge of quality tools including 7 QC tools, 5 Why analysis, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, control plans, and FMEA.
Safety Practices
Adhere to company safety protocols including use of appropriate PPE, safe handling of sheet metal, and timely reporting of unsafe conditions or risks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and inspection standards.
- Proficiency in measuring and inspecting sheet metal components with attention to detail.
- Basic computer literacy, particularly MS Excel.
- Effective communication and ability to collaborate with production and engineering personnel.
- Minimum qualification: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; preference for candidates with Diploma/Degree and relevant experience.
Experience
Typically, 1 to 5 years of experience in quality inspection within sheet metal fabrication or engineering manufacturing sectors.

Authority
- Right to segregate or stop non-conforming products.

Work primarily on shop floor and inspection zones, coordinating with multiple teams while adhering strictly to PPE and safety guidelines throughout operations.
