Overview

The Publishing Editor plays a pivotal role managing the entire publishing cycle—from initial manuscript handling through editing, production, distribution, and promotional efforts. Acting as the main liaison among authors, clients, creative and marketing teams, suppliers, printers, and distributors, this role ensures that all publications adhere to established quality standards, deadlines, and budget constraints. The position also supports operational processes and business growth initiatives within the publishing company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage book projects from concept and manuscript submission through editing, layout design, printing, and final publication.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination among authors, clients, editors, designers, printers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee all aspects of editing, design, proofreading, printing, production, and quality assurance.
  • Create and monitor project timelines, deliverables, approvals, budgets, and deadlines to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Handle sourcing and management of printers and suppliers, including obtaining quotations and managing production specifications.
  • Assist with marketing strategies, public relations, social media campaigns, book launches, events, and promotional initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation related to publishing, production, suppliers, and projects.
  • Support business development activities including proposals, enquiries, and quotation management.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with bookstores, libraries, retailers, distributors, and online sales platforms.
  • Manage book listings, pricing strategies, stock levels, and distribution logistics across multiple sales channels.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to broaden book distribution and enhance market penetration.
  • Contribute to the ongoing daily operations and implementation of efficiency improvements in publishing workflows.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Literature with 2-4 years of relevant experience involving printing, production details, proofing, and supplier coordination.
  • Background working directly with clients, authors, editors, designers, printers, suppliers, or creative teams is essential.
  • Prior experience in publishing or book production is advantageous.
  • Strong skills in project management, organizational capabilities, communication, and diligent follow-up.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on quality control.
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles, public relations, social media, and strategies for book promotion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and project management software tools.
  • Effective problem-solving, coordination, and negotiation abilities.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
