Role Overview

The Proofreader position is a full-time on-site role based in Chennai. The individual in this role will be responsible for scrutinizing books, journals, and associated materials to ensure correctness in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall consistency, aligning content with the organization's quality benchmarks. Daily duties include reviewing page proofs meticulously, correcting mistakes, marking ambiguous sections, and liaising with editors and production teams to resolve queries. The role may also involve evaluating translated texts for accuracy and fluency, adherence to style guidelines, and fulfilling stringent production schedules. The Proofreader is pivotal in upholding the clarity and integrity of published works.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Advanced proficiency in spelling and grammar to maintain linguistic precision and consistency.
  • Exceptional proofreading abilities with strong attention to detail, capable of detecting and amending textual errors.
  • Effective communication skills necessary for interaction with editors, authors, and production personnel.
  • Basic translation skills or prior experience reviewing translated content, applicable based on specific projects.
  • Competence with word processing and publishing software, alongside familiarity with style manuals.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills with the capability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Educational qualifications such as a diploma or degree in English, Journalism, Publishing, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on proofreading experience.
  • Previous experience in book, journal, or academic publishing environments is advantageous.
