Job description
Position Overview
We are collaborating with a top-tier mining asset owner to recruit a Project Manager responsible for leading environmental approvals and consenting projects at a major operational site in Invercargill, New Zealand. This role entails overseeing consultant-led studies, technical experts, and internal teams to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and governance-aligned project delivery. The position requires on-site presence from Monday to Friday with relocation to Invercargill expected if necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of environmental consent renewal initiatives along with associated technical studies, managing the process from initial planning through to government submission and approval.
- Oversee project operations pertinent to Air Discharge and Water Discharge consent schemes.
- Coordinate and manage third-party consultants, environmental experts, regulatory advisors, and internal stakeholders to meet project goals effectively.
- Maintain comprehensive project schedules, budgets, risk and action registers, and reporting mechanisms.
- Handle consultant contracts including defining scopes, monitoring deliverables, assessing performance, and managing commercial administration.
- Organize and lead project meetings, technical workshops, stakeholder communications, and periodic progress assessments.
- Evaluate consultant outputs, technical documents, and reports for adherence to quality standards and compliance criteria.
- Track project metrics such as performance, costs, risks, milestones, and deliverables, providing prompt and precise status reports to leadership and stakeholders.
- Manage invoicing, budget monitoring, and overall financial controls related to project cost management on a monthly basis.
- Ensure all project tasks comply with relevant governance frameworks, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.
Candidate Profile
- Holds an appropriate tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Project Management, Planning, or a closely related field.
- Brings 5 to 10 years of experience in roles involving project management, environmental management, engineering, planning, or related disciplines.
- Proven track record in delivering projects focused on environmental issues, infrastructure, regulatory compliance, or resource consenting.
- Skilled at managing multidisciplinary teams of external consultants and contractors.
- Demonstrates robust project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, progress reporting, risk mitigation, and governance adherence.
- Experienced in contract administration and consultant engagement management.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong analytical capabilities and organizational aptitude to juggle multiple priorities and competing project demands.
- Experience with environmental programs related to landfill, waste management, or other compliance-based projects is a distinct advantage.
