Job description

Role Overview

This position entails overseeing construction projects by coordinating with district staff, architects, engineers, and contractors. The role encompasses comprehensive management of construction activities including budgeting, scheduling, permitting, and supporting architectural and engineering efforts throughout design and build phases.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in facilities planning, architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field is required.
  • TASBO certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
  • Five years of progressive responsibility in construction project management may be considered as a substitute for the degree.
  • At least three years of experience coordinating all phases of multiple K-12 construction projects is necessary.
  • Experience with CAD software and Microsoft Project is desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to develop project design, scope, and budgeting recommendations.
  • Maintain regular communication with project and campus administrators.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Provide timely information to school leaders regarding construction timelines and requirements.
  • Engage principals and administrators for input on facility needs and upcoming projects.
  • Promote a positive school and organizational environment.
  • Support district goals and strategic plan through effective communication and teamwork.
  • Manage facility assessment and capital planning software.
  • Coordinate design professionals through schematic design, development, and construction documentation phases.
  • Schedule and oversee capital improvement construction projects.
  • Attend construction progress meetings representing district interests.
  • Review payment applications collaboratively with architects, contractors, and administration.
  • Address and resolve any construction-related concerns, deficiencies, or scheduling conflicts.
  • Secure necessary permits and approvals in conjunction with city officials and utilities.
  • Prepare reports on project status in various formats for stakeholders and the Board of Trustees.
  • Participate in planning and design of renovation projects with an eye towards efficiency.
  • Respond to after-hours contractor calls to provide support as needed.
  • Maintain professionalism, accept feedback, and pursue continual professional development.

Working Conditions and Equipment

  • Use of standard office tools including computers and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with CAD, BIM, MS Project, project management, scheduling, and facility assessment software.
  • Frequent site visits requiring standing, bending, climbing, and carrying loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environments vary from indoor office spaces to outdoor construction sites with exposure to hazards like extreme weather, dust, noise, vibration, and chemicals.
  • Occasional irregular or extended working hours and district-wide travel may be necessary.
  • Maintain emotional composure under stressful conditions.

Additional Information

This role holds no supervisory responsibilities. Other assigned tasks may arise as business needs change.
