Job description
About the Role
Join StandardAero as a Production Engineer in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where you will engage in challenging engineering projects that will expand your skills. We welcome candidates across experience levels—from recent graduates to seasoned professionals—who have an interest in hands-on production, manufacturing, and technical troubleshooting within the aerospace sector. You will provide vital engineering support focused on component repair, developing repair solutions and driving continuous improvement initiatives while collaborating closely with Operations, Quality, Process Engineering, and other teams to ensure compliance with airworthiness and contractual standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead improvement initiatives by conducting thorough root cause analyses examining repair instructions, workflows, inspection criteria, fixtures, machinery, turnaround times, non-conformance tags, material review board reports, operational interruptions, warranty failure modes, field reliability issues, and subcontractor repair performance. Partner with the quality department to track trends in these improvements.
- Develop and refine repair methods—both minor and major non-standard repairs—in coordination with OEMs, in-house process engineers, and external services under the Design Approval Organization (DAO) guidelines to reduce rejects and material review board interventions.
- Manage and update repair documentation including Reworks Process Instructions (RPIs), temporary overhaul data revisions (TODRs), matrix codes, and produce detailed production routings and repair instructions based on approved data.
- Evaluate scrap components that cannot be routinely disposed of, applying book repairs where possible, monitoring scrap rates and costs, and ensuring accumulation of potentially repairable stock.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and DAO mandates by handling MRB documentation, non-conformance tags, TODRs, and temporary parts list revisions.
- Serve as a liaison between various departments such as customer service, operations, quality, service engineering, process engineering, and airworthiness to resolve technical production issues.
- Initiate, revise, and interpret technical drawings as required.
- Support the procurement of necessary equipment to meet project goals, along with monitoring and addressing equipment safety considerations.
- Prepare technical reports and proposals, and develop clear work instructions.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and promptly report any hazardous conditions or unsafe practices observed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong organizational acumen combined with solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, monitor project timelines, and complete assignments effectively.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical information and engineering drawings.
- A genuine interest in practical production and manufacturing environments.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with gas turbine and accessory design principles, basic machine shop operations, and gas turbine metallurgy alongside understanding of engine manuals.
- Experience working with precision measurement tools and interpreting engineering drawings including tolerance specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Detailed understanding of company processes, instructions, and quality standards related to airworthiness and contracts.
- Basic knowledge of production management computer systems.
- Previous aerospace or manufacturing industry experience is desirable.
- Interest or hands-on experience with remanufacturing techniques such as electroplating (hard chrome, nickel, silver), electroless nickel plating, thermal spray technologies, welding, metal removal processes (grinding, single point machining, EDM), heat treatment, bench operations (cold working, sleeve and insert repairs), and painting.
Benefits
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage.
- Company pension plan with 100% company match vested up to 5%.
- Paid vacation starting immediately upon hire.
- Performance bonus opportunities.
- Health and dependent care flexible spending accounts.
- Short- and long-term disability insurance.
