Job description
About Pophaus
Pophaus is a Toronto-based creative and organic social agency dedicated exclusively to Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) brands in the food, beverage, wellness, and supplement sectors. Operating their own studio, they specialize in crafting engaging visuals that captivate audiences and maintain brand loyalty beyond initial impressions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct product, food, beverage, and lifestyle photography primarily in the Toronto studio, with occasional shoots at kitchens, grocery aisles, or various off-site locations.
- Manage the entire photographic workflow including lighting setup, set construction, shooting, image selection, color correction, retouching, and final delivery.
- Create intricate sets utilizing props, surfaces, and backdrops; enhance product appeal through techniques such as pouring, drizzling, splashing, crumbling, and garnishing to emphasize texture and freshness.
- Produce still images suited for social media posts, as well as capture stop motion and brief video clips when concepts require.
- Maintain visual consistency for each client across multiple shoots by applying uniform lighting, color grading, and stylistic approaches ensuring a cohesive brand identity rather than multiple disparate photographers’ styles.
- Collaborate with the Art Director and design team to plan shoot days, including developing shot lists and mood boards through to the final handoff of assets.
- Maintain studio readiness by ensuring all gear, lighting, surfaces, backups, and a clear, well-organized folder structure are in place.
- Oversee the file management pipeline so designers can easily access finalized assets without delays.
- Represent the studio during client and founder visits, ensuring a positive and professional on-set experience.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of three years experience in product or food photography, gained in studio, agency, or in-house brand environments, supported by a robust portfolio.
- Expertise in lighting a variety of products authentically and appealingly, from simple dishes like oatmeal to bottled condiments.
- Proficient with Capture One or Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop with retouching considered an integral part of the role.
- Understanding of social media visual standards and engagement drivers, including optimal cropping ratios for platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and distinctions between story and feed formats.
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines without compromising quality, meeting weekly delivery schedules.
- Capable of managing and executing studio shoot days independently or with a small support crew.
- Personable, curious, and approachable — comfortable interacting with clients and founders on set as the primary studio representative.
- Residency in Toronto and willingness to work primarily on-site, as the role requires physical presence with the equipment.
Preferred Extras
- Skills in videography and motion content creation such as stop motion, cinemagraphs, and short clips captured on mirrorless cameras.
- Previous experience shooting for CPG brands, especially in grocery or direct-to-consumer food and beverage sectors.
- Food preparation instincts or collaboration with trusted food stylists.
- Well-informed opinions on sourcing high-quality props locally in Toronto.
- Familiarity with Pophaus’ Instagram feed and innovative ideas for image reinterpretation.
Role Details and Benefits
- Permanent, full-time position based at the Pophaus studio in Toronto.
- Competitive annual salary between 60000 and 70000 CAD, commensurate with experience, emphasizing portfolio strength over years.
- Comprehensive health benefits package included.
- Reporting to the Art Director and collaborating closely with designers, account teams, and brand founders.
- Immediate hiring priority until the ideal candidate is found.
