Job description
About Contact Energy
At Contact Energy, we believe that the home is the most important place in the world, guiding everything we do—from leading energy transition efforts to powering New Zealand and caring for people and communities. We operate as a power, broadband, and mobile provider and are boldly investing in renewable energy and modern connected ways of working, aiming to leave New Zealand better than we found it.
Our Trading teams work at the critical intersection of markets, strategy, technology, and generation to navigate the complex energy landscape and position our company for the future.
Role Overview
As a Product Owner within the Market Strategy area, you will lead the vision, development roadmap, and prioritization for a suite of products that underpin some of Contact's key trading decisions. These products depend on data, modeling, forecasts, and insights to support effective decision-making.
You will collaborate with experts in data, modeling, engineering, and market strategy to translate user needs into clear product strategies and roadmaps. The role requires balancing technical details with business objectives to focus on solving problems and delivering valuable outcomes.
Working cross-functionally with teams in Trading, Finance, Risk, Generation, Technology, and other product owners, you will manage stakeholder perspectives and make informed trade-offs to maintain a dynamic product vision. Success is measured by creating trusted, widely adopted products that enhance decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the product vision and roadmap for multiple products supporting trading decisions.
- Understand user decision-making processes, information requirements, and desired outcomes.
- Translate complex business needs and market information into clear product direction and priorities.
- Engage effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders, adjusting communication levels as needed.
- Collaborate across multiple departments, managing competing views and fostering focus on value creation.
- Ensure products are trusted, adopted, and demonstrably improve key decision-making processes.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in product ownership or product management roles.
- Skilled in creating product visions and translating outcomes into actionable priorities.
- Experienced in managing product roadmaps and backlogs within complex environments.
- Effective communicator capable of engaging both technical and business audiences.
- Confident in balancing stakeholder interests and navigating competing perspectives.
- A genuine interest in data, analytics, and modeling, with a willingness to deepen understanding of the energy market.
- Prior experience in data, analytics, or energy markets is advantageous but not mandatory, with support provided to learn domain specifics.
