Job description
About Us
Future Business Systems (FBS Australia) has delivered ERP and point-of-sale software solutions for over 40 years to retailers and wholesalers in Australia and New Zealand. Our trusted Harmony accounting platform and WinPOS POS system serve more than 2,000 retail outlets. As part of Vela APX under Constellation Software Inc., we benefit from stable, long-term ownership with no exit pressure, allowing us to fully support products until they achieve success.
Innovation is evolving here with AI agents integrating into our delivery process, shifting focus from engineering capacity to the clarity of problem definition and idea validation upfront. This enables faster prototyping and customer feedback loops than before.
One exciting product in our portfolio is PIMdrop, a product information management system that centralizes and harmonizes product data across sales channels including POS, marketplaces, and eCommerce, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. This represents the type of product leadership opportunity we offer.
The Role
You will be responsible for directing one or more products end-to-end, championing what gets built, understanding target users, defining value propositions, and verifying customer impact. This involves strategic planning of product roadmaps and positioning, but also hands-on engagement like participating in demos and onboarding customers to ensure successful adoption. We seek someone who can drive product vision with confidence and get measurable outcomes within 12 months.
Responsibilities
- Define and steer the strategic roadmap for your products, balancing market trends, customer feedback, and business goals with conviction.
- Engage deeply with customers to uncover unmet and unspoken needs beyond explicit requests.
- Translate customer problems into clear, detailed requirements suitable for engineers and AI tools.
- Develop and validate prototypes proactively to test ideas before full development cycles.
- Take an active role in sales activities through product expertise, demos, and customer interactions to support new business wins.
- Lead customer onboarding and implementation to deliver value early and effectively.
- Serve as the voice of the product internally and externally, communicating progress and direction to all stakeholders.
- Analyze actual customer usage and be candid about product performance and improvement opportunities.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum two years owning a product or significant product area in roles such as Product Manager or Product Owner, with emphasis on responsibility over duration.
- Demonstrated ability to create and launch products or prototypes, either professionally or independently.
- Proficient user of AI tools integrated into work processes, with experience building or automating solutions using AI.
- Exceptional written communication skills, capable of producing precise and unambiguous documentation.
- Effective prioritization skills and sound judgment under constraints, without over-reliance on processes.
- Strong interpersonal communication, adaptable to various audiences including customers, sales teams, and developers.
- Curiosity and interest in business operations; familiarity with retail, ERP, or point-of-sale systems is a plus but not mandatory.
- Experience in agile delivery methods is beneficial; openness to evolving delivery models is crucial.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with product information management platforms or other complex data-centric products requiring accuracy and structure.
- Diverse professional background including design, engineering, retail operations, or entrepreneurship, reflecting versatility over linear career paths.
Why Join Us
- Work on impactful products used daily by thousands of retailers across Australia and New Zealand.
- Enjoy permanent product ownership supported by patient capital, enabling long-term product innovation without quarterly pressures.
- Be part of pioneering product leadership within an agentic delivery pipeline transforming traditional processes.
- Collaborate closely with product, sales, and implementation teams to stay connected with customer needs.
- Benefit from flexible hybrid work arrangements centered at our Melbourne office.
Additional Information
Please apply by submitting your resume along with a few paragraphs addressing one of the following: a product you admire for its design, a software product in retail or business that frustrates you and your improvement ideas, or something meaningful you have built. Links to portfolio or work examples are encouraged. Applications should be sent directly to the company recruitment email.
Salary
The position offers an annual salary ranging from 95000 to 105000 AUD.
