Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a Product Engineer skilled in AI-native development, based in New Zealand, to take ownership of product features from inception through to production. This role focuses on leveraging AI coding agents as key development collaborators, rather than manual coding, enabling the delivery of reliable software solutions in an innovative AI-first engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage product features comprehensively from problem identification to deployment and production support.
- Proactively determine development needs and independently drive feature initiatives without relying on detailed instructions.
- Directly liaise with external collaborators and service providers to secure sandbox access, review technical documentation, and set integration standards.
- Collaborate with AI agents to generate product and technical specifications, ensuring full accountability for their quality and correctness.
- Distribute development tasks to AI agents and meticulously evaluate their output within a complex production codebase.
- Scrutinize AI-generated code for flaws or weaknesses, refining solutions to meet reliability standards.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and validation, emphasizing the accuracy and dependability of features handling financial transactions.
- Oversee architecture, system integration, deployment, and stability aspects of assigned feature sets.
- Participate actively as an autonomous team member in an international, remote setting, contributing to the advancement of AI-centric engineering approaches.
- Stay updated with evolving AI-based development methodologies and identify enhancements to the product development lifecycle.
Candidate Qualifications
- Experienced senior engineer with a proven record in architecting, deploying, and maintaining complex production systems end-to-end.
- Background as a backend developer, software architect, or an equivalent senior technical role without managerial responsibilities.
- Extensive hands-on experience integrating AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar as a primary development tool.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for agentic software development, actively learning about new methodologies and tools.
- Strong entrepreneurial drive with the capacity to independently identify requirements and drive outcomes.
- Excellent critical thinking with the ability to effectively audit, debug, and enhance AI-generated technical outputs.
- High commitment to engineering excellence, emphasizing reliability, rigorous testing, and production readiness.
- Proven experience managing integrations with external systems and service providers.
- Ability to manage ambiguity and make technical and product decisions without detailed predefined guidelines.
- Strong product focus, understanding how technical solutions impact users and business goals.
- Effective English communication skills suited for collaboration within a distributed multinational team.
Benefits
- Full-time remote work with flexible location options.
- Competitive salary details disclosed during recruitment.
- 28 calendar days of paid vacation annually.
- 7 paid wellness days per year for personal or recovery purposes.
- Referral bonuses up to $5,000 for successful hires.
- 50% reimbursement for professional development events such as training and conferences.
- Corporate discounts for English language learning courses.
- Health support stipend up to $1,000 per annum for employees not covered by corporate insurance.
- Support for workplace setup costs up to $1,000 every three years for remote workers outside office locations.
- Internal rewards system offering bonuses exchangeable for merchandise and team activities.
- A globally distributed, international team culture.
- Engagement with cutting-edge AI-first software development practices.
