Job description
Role Overview
Join HMP Bullingdon as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) contributing significantly to the effective management of a busy prison facility. This role integrates a range of diverse activities including security checks, managing deliveries, supervising visitor access, and monitoring communications and surveillance systems. It combines administrative tasks with active duties such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within prison grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct security searches and manage gate security.
- Handle incoming deliveries and supervise visitor check-ins.
- Monitor telephone calls and CCTV systems to maintain safety and security.
- Escort vehicles around the prison grounds as required.
- Work flexible shifts including nights and weekends to support continuous operations.
Candidate Profile
This role does not require formal qualifications; however, excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential. Applicants should demonstrate sound judgment, common sense, and a cooperative team ethic. While prisoner interaction is limited, occasional contact may occur depending on the prison.
Requirements and Eligibility
- A full, valid UK driving license with D1 category endorsement permitting driving of vehicles with no more than 16 passenger seats, up to 8 meters in length, and trailers up to 750kg.
- Reliable transportation is advantageous due to the rural location and fixed shift times.
Training and Career Development
Extensive training will be provided to prepare you for the role. The position offers a pathway to broader prison roles, including an OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of 30,491 per year.
- Annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 10 years' service (pro-rata).
- Nine additional bank, public, and privilege holidays.
- Access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service.
- Eligibility for the Civil Service pension scheme, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
Additional Information
The role requires punctuality and reliability, given fixed shift schedules and the necessity to commute independently to the rural location.
