Situated at Knox Rd, Norwich NR1 4LU in the East of England, this position operates with a standard 39-hour workweek including unsocial hours covered by the additional pay.

Role Details and Salary

The starting annual salary is £34,928 for 39 weekly hours. Options to work 37 or 41 hours per week are available, adjusting salary correspondingly. The role demands flexibility with shifts covering evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays, plus opportunities for paid extra working hours.

Who We're Looking For

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years at employment start
  • Meet Civil Service nationality rules (UK, Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth citizens with UK work rights, certain EU nationals with settled status, Turkish nationals under conditions)
  • Pass medical and fitness assessments, including eyesight and hearing standards
  • No offensive or intimidating tattoos; facial tattoos only allowed for cultural, religious, or medical reasons
  • Residency in the UK for 3 years required for category A prison work

Transport & Work Hours

While possessing a driving license and vehicle is advantageous due to possible rural location with limited public transport, it is not essential. Shift start and end times are fixed, so punctuality in commuting is required.

Application Process

The process includes online tests assessing judgment, valuing-based assessments, and an online assessment centre that evaluates key behavioural and cognitive skills. Candidates achieving higher scores get priority invitations. Upon success, offers are granted from a merit list valid for 12 months. Medical and fitness tests follow prior to appointment.

Benefits

  • Initial leave of 25 days annually, increasing to 30 days after 10 years
  • Paid public holidays plus one additional privilege day
  • Civil Service pension with employer contributing 28.97%
  • Access to cycle-to-work scheme, travel loans, and other benefits
