Job description
Role Overview
Join the Western Australia Department of Justice as a Prison Officer and contribute meaningfully to rehabilitation and community safety. This role involves maintaining security, managing prisoners of various security classifications on a rotating 24/7 shift roster, and supporting behavioral development through effective communication and conflict resolution.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting annual salary ranges from $97,610 to $111,150 after completing a fully paid 12-week training program, during which pay is pro-rated at $75,520 per annum.
- Superannuation applies, effective from 11 June 2026.
- Ten shifts per every 21-day period to support work-life balance.
- Up to six weeks of annual leave entitlement annually.

Work Locations
Positions are located across the Perth metropolitan area including Bandyup, Casuarina, Hakea, and Melaleuca, as well as regional sites in Albany, Bunbury, Eastern Goldfields (Kalgoorlie), Greenough (Geraldton), and West Kimberley (Derby). Additional regional benefits apply.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen, Permanent Resident, or New Zealand citizen.
- Possession of a current unrestricted Australian C-Class driver's license or equivalent with no probationary conditions.
- Former Department of Justice employees are ineligible if previously unsuccessfully re-engaged or terminated.
Addition for Experienced Officers
Applicants with relevant custodial qualifications and experience may qualify for an Accelerated Training Program enabling a shorter completion period.
