About the Role
We are collaborating with a specialized technology consultancy to recruit an experienced Principal Software Engineer for a well-established financial institution in London. This senior, hands-on role aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of how software is developed, tested, and deployed across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate with development teams to detect and eliminate obstacles in the software delivery lifecycle.
- Design, enhance, and automate continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
- Elevate automated testing standards and reinforce test-driven development methodologies.
- Shift testing, security assessments, and quality assurance earlier into the development timeline.
- Upgrade Java runtime environments, libraries, dependencies, and frameworks.
- Containerize applications and refine deployment workflows.
- Enhance system observability, logging, and resilience in production environments.
- Automate changes related to applications, databases, and infrastructure components.
- Strengthen engineering practices including source control, code review, and dependency management.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to implement solutions rather than only advising.
Candidate Profile
- Proven, hands-on software engineering experience with Java and JVM platforms.
- Deep expertise in CI/CD and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Experience in creating or significantly improving automated deployment workflows.
- Strong skills in test-driven development and automated testing methods.
- Familiarity with Spring and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Experience using Jenkins, TeamCity, or similar CI/CD tools.
- Proficiency with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
- Knowledge of build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Understanding of secure coding practices, production observability, and resilience engineering.
- Ability to navigate and troubleshoot diverse applications throughout the delivery process.
- Experience leveraging modern AI-assisted coding tools during development.
- Capability to operate effectively at a senior technical level while maintaining a hands-on approach.
- Background in financial services or similarly complex and regulated sectors is advantageous.
