Job description
About the Role
Join Flex, a leading diversified manufacturing partner dedicated to helping prominent brands design and produce innovative technologies that better the world. We foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and collaboration, providing employees opportunities for personal and professional growth. We invite applicants enthusiastic about innovation—even if they do not meet every qualification.
We are seeking a Principal Power Technology Researcher based in Kallang, Singapore. This role focuses on pioneering research into foundational technologies for future high-power products that will launch in approximately four to six years. Key responsibilities involve researching and prototyping cutting-edge power system technologies, developing proof of concept designs, simulations, and producing patents, whitepapers, academic articles, and presentation materials.
Daily Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the site manager or technical leaders to discover new technologies suitable for adaptation by Flex's Advanced Technology teams within established requirements.
- Evaluate and develop technologies such as Medium Voltage AC to High Voltage DC solid state transformer systems, isolated DC-DC converters with large conversion ratios (50:1 to 100:1), advanced three-phase AC power systems combining high efficiency, power density, harmonic mitigation, and excellent EMC attributes, and other solutions for challenges in modern data centers.
- Engage cross-functionally to evaluate new technologies against product specifications, cost constraints, timelines, and feasibility.
- Provide expert technical leadership, guidance, and solutions addressing challenges during research and prototyping phases.
- Assist in design support and resolve issues during the transition from Singapore Research Centre to Flex Advanced Technology Teams.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics, with a PhD considered advantageous.
- For candidates with a Master's degree, at least 5 years; or for those with a PhD, a minimum of 3 years' experience in power systems research or design, including work on Solid State Transformers, medium-voltage rectifiers, DC-DC modules, and high-efficiency, high-power-density AC/DC systems such as AIDC or high-power EV superchargers.
- Demonstrated leadership in independent project design.
- Strong expertise in power electronics design, with deep knowledge of topologies including Totem-pole PFC, Vienna PFC, T-NPC, ANPC, flyback, LLC, CLLC, and DAB.
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as MatchCAD, SIMetrix, PLECS, and PADs (or their equivalents).
- Self-driven, passionate about their work, and excels in teamwork environments.
Benefits
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Life insurance protection.
- Paid time off for rest and personal matters.
