Principal Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Join the Anglian Water's @one Alliance, an expert collaboration of eight leading companies delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. As we gear up for AMP8, we seek skilled professionals to help shape advancements in water infrastructure.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead and direct electrical engineering teams, provide design support ensuring that all schemes comply with current legislation and standards, and review technical deliverables within the Alliance and its supply chains. Coaching and mentoring junior electrical engineers is an integral part of this role.

Responsibilities

• Report regularly to the Discipline Head on progress and issues.
• Work closely with Principal Engineers and Design Managers to track upcoming project milestones and design review schedules.
• Verify specifications, datasheets, technical drawings, and 3D models for quality, safety, and compliance with standards.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to developing electrical engineers.
• Evaluate and respond proficiently to site construction and supply chain design inquiries and change requests, ensuring ongoing design suitability.
• Contribute to Construction Design Management (CDM) meetings and commissioning strategies.
• Collaborate with internal teams for continuous improvements and integration of best design practices.
• Coordinate with other departments and project teams for design requirements alignment.
• Maintain design quality through rigorous review processes aligned with project timelines.
• Support discipline leads and engineers to deliver outputs meeting time and quality objectives.
• Champion sustainable and low carbon design initiatives.
• Promote offsite construction, modular builds, and repeatable solutions in project designs.

Candidate Profile

• Holds an engineering degree or equivalent expertise, ideally chartered or on the path to chartered status.
• Practical experience with water sector assets and capital projects is essential.
• Strong knowledge and application of relevant regulations, standards, and practices.
• Proven leadership abilities, including mentoring junior engineers.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Business Units

The role may be aligned to one of four business units:

• Place Based Thinking: Manage complex projects covering extensive catchments and infrastructure including rising/gravity mains, pumping stations, and treatment works.
• Water: Support strategic operations in clean water networks, focus on hydraulic assessments, planning, and capital projects.
• Water Recycling (East and West): Oversee wastewater collection, treatment, and environmental compliance across a large sewerage network and numerous treatment centers.
